Vice President Mike Pence said that President Donald Trump was “missing an opportunity” with his decision not to appear at the Iowa State Fair in August. Pence said the fair, traditionally attended by presidential candidates, provides an excellent platform for “connecting with the hardworking people of Iowa and all their concerns.” He added that having a “direct line of communication with the voters” was more important than ever in an election season when so much of the campaign discourse is taking place online. Although disappointingly absent from this year’s Iowa State Fair, the president has hinted that he may still visit the state in the future.
