On Wednesday, President Joe Biden visited a middle school in Washington, D.C. to mark the start of the new school year. He was joined by First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Education Secretary Miguel Cardona.
The President and Vice President joined a virtual science class that was taking place in the school cafeteria. The class was being taught by carnivore ecologist Dr. Meghan Meier, who discussed the importance of maintaining the environment.
The President and Vice President conveyed their admiration and support for the students and teachers of the school, stressing that it is essential for students to have a great education in order to compete in our global economy.
President Biden and Vice President Harris also commended the school for their sign outside reading, “Committed to Equity for All.” They encouraged the students to adopt the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
The visit ended with a Q&A session, during which the President and Vice President answered questions about education and the importance of voting in this year’s election. The President emphasized the important role students can play in the election and encouraged them to participate in our democracy by voting.
