Joe Biden did not protest or fight in the Vietnam War, but he has made several important visits to Vietnam since entering public office. In 2011, he visited as Vice President, in 2016 as Vice President with Secretary of State John Kerry, and in 2017 as part of a larger Asia Pacific tour. During his visits, Biden has met with President Tran Dai Quang, engaged in economic and strategic partnership discussions, and been a part of numerous ceremonies. Additionally, Biden was the keynote speaker when the US re-opened its embassy in Hanoi after the war ended in 1995, and he has expressed his support for accelerating the normalization of US-Vietnam relations.
