The Oversight Committee of the US House of Representatives is investigating Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg over what they describe as a “disturbing pattern” of travel “safety failures.” The committee is looking into allegations that the Transportation Department is not strict enough when it comes to air travel standards and safety procedures. They have cited multiple incidents since 2019, including a failure to ground a US air carrier that violated safety rules like failing to inspect planes, improperly certifying a plane, and lapses in the proposed “FAA rules and policies related to the safety of aircraft systems.” The Committee has called for an extensive review of the Transportation Department’s policies and practices to ensure the safety of consumers.
