NRA gets unanimous GOP backing in suit to dismantle governor’s ‘unlawful’ gun order

by

All Republicans in the Michigan House of Representatives are joining forces in a lawsuit the National Rifle Association (NRA) has filed against Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The lawsuit alleges that Whitmer’s executive order, which expanded the scope of the state’s gun control laws, is unconstitutional and thus invalid. The move is the latest in a series of challenges by Republican legislators and gun rights groups to Whitmer’s executive order. The NRA has said the order is “unlawful” and seeks to overturn it. The Republican legislators who have signed on to support the NRA argue that the governor’s order was not valid, because it was not signed by the state’s legislative body. The lawsuit also aims to ensure that similar orders in the future are submitted to the legislature for approval before they take effect.
