Earlier today, an attempt to free a stranded cruise ship stuck in the ice near Greenland has been unsuccessful. The MS Nordic Odyssey was carrying over 200 passengers and 70 crew members when it became stuck in an ice pack near Nuuk, Greenland due to extreme weather.

The vessel had been trying to make its way back to the United States following an Arctic Ocean expedition. The ship was unable to move even after its staff attempted to break up the ice with welding equipment.

The situation is being monitored by the head of maritime search and rescue in Greenland, Nuka Katateeq. Katateeq said that while attempts have been made to break up the ice, it hasn’t been very effective. He added that there was still a chance for the vessel to be freed.

The weather in the region is expected to improve over the next 24 hours, which could provide an opportunity for the Nordic Odyssey to be freed. In the meantime, the ship and its occupants are being supplied with food and other essentials.
