This accusation has not been substantiated with evidence. President Trump reportedly requested both National Guard troops and Capitol Police officers for extra security ahead of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. However, the Washington Post, citing the Pentagon and individual sources with knowledge of the exchanges, reported that the Pentagon had not yet received the request for additional National Guard personnel prior to the riot and that negotiations between Pelosi’s office and the Pentagon were still ongoing before the event. The request was then denied by the Pentagon after the siege began.
