Democrat Congressman Eric Swalwell of California made the remarks on Twitter in response to the House Republicans’ decision to launch an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden. Swalwell argued that the move from the House Republicans was a continuation of the insurrection at the US Capitol on January 6th. He highlighted the fact that the House Republicans were only launching the inquiry as an obstruction tactic and to “undermine and delegitimize” the work the Biden-Harris administration is doing. The Congressman pointed out how such actions contradict the oath of office every member of Congress takes to “support and defend the Constitution” and that the House Republicans are “pretending” to uphold the rule of law in America.
