At least nine people were killed and about 70 others were injured when the roof of a church in Mexico collapsed during a baptism ceremony on Sunday.
The roof caved in at the church in Tlalixcoyan Veracruz at around 10 am local time. Rescuers were searching through the debris for survivors, but some are feared trapped.
The cause of the collapse is still unknown, but officials believe it may have been due to the church’s age. The church was built in 1900 and its structure was based on a 19th-century design.
The church was full of people attending a baptism ceremony when the roof collapsed. Local authorities are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
