The 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Roger Penrose, Reinhard Genzel, and Andrea Ghez for their groundbreaking work in elucidating the extreme warping of space-time around black holes. Penrose was honored for his theoretical work showing that the general theory of relativity implies the existence of black holes, Genzel and Ghez for their observations of a supermassive object at the centre of our galaxy.
