According to investigators, Vietnam-linked hackers reportedly attempted to hack into the emails and social media accounts of several U.S. government officials and employees of major media outlets between 2016 and 2020. The hackers reportedly conducted phishing campaigns, created fake accounts, and posted content on news sites, such as Reddit and Yahoo, in an effort to obtain sensitive data and gain access to accounts. The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating the situation, and Vietnam’s government has denied any involvement in the cyberattacks.
