In light of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, the international community is ramping up diplomatic aid efforts for Gaza. These efforts are geared towards addressing the “strangled” conditions in which the civilians of Gaza are living. This is further compounded by the effects of the Israeli blockade of the area, which has been in place since 2007.
International efforts are focused on providing humanitarian aid to Gaza’s population, increasing access to medical supplies and other essential items. Governments, philanthropic and non-profit organizations from around the world are also working to increase economic opportunities and support civil society initiatives.
Further, diplomatic efforts have been made to encourage negotiations between Israel and Palestine towards a long-term solution. The United Nations, the United States, Europe, and Russia have all called for a two-state solution with an end to violence and the lifting of the blockade. However, regional and international tensions remain high and the threat of further conflict continues to grow. Until a solution is reached, international aid efforts will remain critical for Gaza.
