Trickle of aid enters Gaza as Israel ramps up airstrikes and Palestinian deaths keep mounting

by

As Israel’s airstrikes on Gaza continue, a trickle of aid is finally starting to enter the besieged coastal enclave in the form of humanitarian aid. The aid is arriving under the supervision of the United Nations, the European Union, and other international aid groups.

The main purpose of the aid is to provide basic necessities such as food, medical supplies, fuel, and water. This assistance is badly needed in Gaza, where the lack of access to basic needs has been a major issue since the beginning of the conflict.

At the same time, however, the death toll in Gaza keeps mounting. At least 200 Palestinians have died in the conflict, including 59 children. Hundreds more have been injured.

The aid is a welcome reprieve for the civilian population in Gaza, who have been trapped in their homes for weeks as the conflict grinds on. However, it is not enough to put a real dent in the humanitarian crisis faced by the people of Gaza, and will likely not quell their anger over the destruction wrought by Israeli airstrikes.
