DOJ tax official says Weiss needed approval from his division before bringing Hunter Biden charges: Transcript

by

Q: Did [DOJ Tax Division official] need [to] get a sign off from his division before even considering bringing a criminal tax case against Hunter Biden?

A: Yes. Under internal DOJ policy and procedures, any matter that is potentially sensitive or politically charged, or that could attract significant media attention, requires approval from the front office of the Division (the Assistant Attorney General and Deputy Assistant Attorney Generals for Tax) before the case can be referred for criminal review. Additionally, it is standard practice for the Division to consult with [the] Executive Office for U.S. Attorney’s (EOUSA) before taking such steps.
