The campaign of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis released a statement slamming California Governor Gavin Newsom’s “blueprint for failure” and explaining why their debate will be “the biggest one yet.”
DeSantis and Newsom are slated to square off in a debate on October 6th, where the two governors will discuss a wide range of topics including their respective records of job growth, state deficits, COVID-19 responses, and solutions for social unrest.
In their statement, DeSantis’ campaign claimed that Newsom has had numerous failures while in office and that the debate will be “a critical moment to expose those abysmal results and provide the Sunshine State with a stark contrast in the newsom agenda’s destruction and DeSantis’s commitment to improving Floridians’ lives.”
The campaign noted that Newsom’s governance of California, which has an economy that is larger than most countries, has resulted in massive budget deficits, unprecedented taxes, and record-high unemployment. They also asserted that the governor has had “a stark lack of success” in his response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused “devastating health and economic losses.”
The campaign concluded by predicting that the debate between DeSantis and Newsom will be the “biggest one yet,” due to the “importance” of the issues at stake and the “dynamic” of the candidates.
