Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) recently argued that the United States should use “massive retaliation” against Iran to put an end to their attacks on US assets. He stated that the US must use “overwhelming military force” against Iran and its proxy forces to convince Iran to cease its aggression. Cotton further added that the United States must expressly state that “any attack against US forces or assets will be met with overwhelming military force from America and our allies.” He further affirmed that doing so would serve as a deterrent to Iranian aggression, and would discourage their proxy forces from targeting US personnel or assets. Overall, Cotton argued that a strong, proactive approach to defending US interests in the Middle East is long overdue.
