Harvard University hosted a Chinese consul-general this week who has previously praised the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Consul General of China in New York Huang Ping spoke to a gathering of students and scholars at the Harvard Kennedy School’s China Seminar on Tuesday and discussed political topics such as US-China relations and the Hong Kong protests.
Huang is known for publicly praising the CCP and the “Chinese Dream,” a term championed by former Chinese president Hu JinTao. During his remarks, Huang echoed many of these talking points and mentioned his belief that Chinese-US relations are on a “good track,” although there are “some issues.”
According to the South China Morning Post, the event was “fruitful and productive discussions” and touched on a range of topics, including the “multi-layered interaction between the two sides.” Huang concluded by reaffirming the importance of the US-China relationship and called for the two countries to continue dialogue.
