Survey
According to a survey conducted by Russia’s central bank, the number of Russians trading in cryptoassets is on the decline. According to the survey, only one percent of the population is actively engaged in buying and selling cryptocurrencies, down from eight percent in 2018. The survey was conducted between May and June this year.
The survey also revealed that the vast majority of those interested in trading cryptocurrencies were young males, aged 18 to 24, with the majority coming from Moscow and St. Petersburg. Additionally, only a handful of Russians (1.9 percent) stated that they have used or heard of initial coin offerings (ICOs).
The survey results may come as a surprise to many, considering that the Russian government is currently in the process of drafting legislation to support the cryptocurrency industry. It is likely that the legislation could provide more clarity and regulatory oversight, helping to increase the confidence of Russian citizens in trading cryptocurrencies.
