Toyota recalling 1.12 million vehicles over potential air bag issue

by

Toyota announced on Monday, June 22, 2020, that it is recalling 1.12 million vehicles worldwide over an issue related to the air bag inflator. The recall affects vehicles from the 2013-2016 model years, including the Corolla and Corolla Hatchback, the RAV4, and the Scion tC. According to Toyota, certain air bag inflators “could rupture unexpectedly in the event of a crash, which could lead to injury or death.”

The company has said that it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to this issue. Toyota will provide further details, such as when the recall is expected to start, in the near future. Affected customers will be notified by mail and will be asked to bring their vehicle to an authorized Toyota dealership for inspection and repair. Toyota is asking customers to “take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety until repairs are made.”
