Russian special unit linked to Havana Syndrome that sickened US officials overseas: report

by

The Havana Syndrome refers to a series of mystery illnesses first reported by U.S. diplomats and other government employees in Havana, Cuba, in late 2016 and was eventually also reported in other parts of the world. The sufferers reported symptoms such as hearing loss, dizziness, tinnitus, balance issues, visual problems, headaches, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.

According to Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the U.S. officials believe that a military intelligence agency of Russia, known as the GRU, could be behind these incidents. Specifically, the officials suspect that a unit of the GRU known as Unit 29155, which has been linked with assassination attempts and other subversive operations in Europe, could be involved.

However, the WSJ report also stated that not everyone in the U.S government believes that the GRU or Unit 29155 are responsible for the Havana Syndrome, with some doubting that the symptoms are the result of intentional harm. Investigations into the cause of these incidents are ongoing, and Russia has strongly denied being behind them.
