The incident occurred on the evening of August 11, 2020, when the Cessna 162 aircraft, with two people on board, left Martha’s Vineyard Airport and reported difficulty shortly after takeoff. The passenger, believed to be the owner of the plane, assumed navigational control and set the plane on a path towards the airport, eventually crash-landing the plane in the grassy east side of the property.
The plane was badly damaged, though all occupants survived with only minor injuries reported. Officials said the pilot, a 54-year-old man, was not feeling well during the flight and was unable to take action for the safe landing of the aircraft.
The incident is currently under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
