Joe Biden visited Florida on Sept. 17, 2020 to survey damage from Hurricane Idalia. He met with government officials to get an update on the storm’s impact. Despite Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s absence, Biden was able to visit with local officials and first responders to hear firsthand how they were managing the crisis. Biden was also able to meet with families and individuals affected by the storm. The visit ended with Biden speaking to the press and expressing his admiration for the efforts made by those affected and the local authorities.
