In newly released audio, recorded in 1991, Princess Diana admits that Charles was disappointed to find out that she had a boy rather than a girl when Prince Harry was born. Diana claims that the Prince of Wales said, “Oh god, it’s a boy” and that he was “so disappointed”. Diana also reveals delight at having a child of each gender and that she was thankful to have a son to look after her when she is old, given Charles’s apparent preference for their elder son, Prince William. The audio was recorded by journalist Andrew Morton and is part of a new Channel 4 documentary, ‘Diana: In Her Own Words’.
