Missouri Senator Mike Hensley has denied recent allegations that a book-burning took place at a recent Republican political event in Katy, Texas. In response, he tweeted that if he was there, he would “torch any woke pornographic books in sight”, seemingly referring to books with content he found objectionable.
Hensley later clarified that he was joking and does not support book burning. He added that he does not support censorship, but was rather expressing his disdain for what he believes is an “anti-science agenda” being pushed by certain groups. He also urged the U.S. Senate to take seriously the possibility of censorship and to appoint a special committee to investigate it.
