In preparation for the next Summer Olympics in Paris, the French government is taking steps to move homeless people out of the city. This is an effort to ensure an appearance of cleanliness and safety for tourists and athletes visiting the city.
Local charities and government organizations are working to provide temporary shelters and assistance for those who are being moved out. Several thousand homeless people are receiving aid and being rehoused to help them obtain the stability they need. Furthermore, health care services and other resources are being offered to those who may require it.
The French government is no doubt sincerely attempting to help those in need by providing these services and temporary housing. The move, however, is not without its critics, who argue that it is failing to provide long-term solutions and fails to address the underlying causes of homelessness. Others have criticized the move for being inhumane and making the city look good for visitors while failing to provide meaningful assistance for those being relocated.
