In response to President Donald Trump’s social media attacks on a federal prosecutor in a high-profile fraud case, a judge has issued a gag order. The order, which was issued Wednesday in Manhattan federal court, bars members of the prosecution, defense, and President Trump from publicly commenting on the case against fraudster Allen Weisselberg. The judge ordered all parties to refrain from “public comment, including by media or on social media, that could have any bearing on the fairness of a prospective criminal trial.” Weisselberg, the former CFO and executive vice president of the Trump Organization, is reportedly under investigation for fraud and tax evasion. Trump had recently taken to social media to attack the lead prosecutor in the case, calling them “corrupt”. The gag order is an attempt to avoid any potential perceived bias resulting from the President’s remarks.
