The United Auto Workers (UAW) has announced new strike locations at both Ford and General Motors, amid ongoing negotiations with Detroit’s Detroit-based Big Three Automakers. The new strike locations are part of the union’s ongoing resistance to the companies’ efforts to reduce wages and benefits.

According to the UAW, the new strike locations are “in response to the ongoing attack by GM and Ford on the wages, benefits and working conditions of tens of thousands of dedicated hard-working UAW members in Michigan and across the United States.”

At the General Motors-Harvard Avenue site in Detroit, the UAW says it is “fighting to protect good Detroit jobs and secure good wages, pensions and health care” for the companies’ employees. The union’s impact at the location is expected to be significant, since the plant is the primary supplier of powertrains to GM’s factories in Michigan.

At Ford, the strike locations include Flat Rock near Detroit, Romeo south of Detroit, and Chicago Heights south of Chicago. These sites represent major production sites for Ford, and the union’s actions threaten potential unrest for the company.

The UAW is currently in tense negotiations with General Motors, Ford, and Fiat Chrysler for new contracts, and is prepared to take its message of job security and better working conditions onto the picket lines throughout the country.
