Walmart has reported that their customers who take weight loss drugs have reduced the amount of food they purchase. This behavior is likely due to the effects of the drugs which can reduce appetite. For example, many of these drugs contain orlistat, a medication that binds to enzymes in the body that release fat from food. By blocking these enzymes, the food containing fat is not able to be broken down, and is therefore not processed and absorbed by the body. Additionally, some of these medications may cause people to feel less hungry, further reducing the amount of food they purchase.
