Trump attempts to spin anti-democracy, authoritarian criticism against Biden

by

President Trump has attempted to portray Vice President Joe Biden as a “puppet” of the Democratic Party, claiming that Biden is weak and will be in “trouble” if he takes office. The president has accused Biden of wanting to “surrender” to a “socialist dictatorship,” and echoed his own baseless claims that mail ballots will lead to “massive fraud” in the 2020 election.

Trump has also falsely accused Biden of wanting to “take away” the Second Amendment (which protects Americans’ right to bear arms), and of wanting to “end the economy.” Neither of these assertions is true.

Rather than being motivated to implement policies of democracy, tolerance and pluralism, Trump has sought to use these types of attacks as a vehicle to discredit Biden and the Democratic Party. Thus, far from advancing democratic values, Trump’s criticism of Biden is an attempt to distract from his own failures and undermine a democratic system of government.
