At a press conference in which the company was announced, Governor Haley was photographed standing next to a Chinese Communist Party flag and praising the company’s investment in the state. Her decision to both acknowledge and laud the company has brought renewed criticism of the CCP’s record on human rights and its alleged influence over businesses operating in China. Nevertheless, Governor Haley’s office has emphasized the significant economic benefits of the company, which is expected to employ roughly 2,000 people.
