UN General Assembly votes to demand immediate ceasefire in Gaza

On 8 July 2018, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The resolution was passed by a vote of 120-8, with 45 abstentions. The resolution expresses deep concern at the escalation of violence and the loss of civilian life in Gaza. It calls on all parties to immediately cease all hostilities, protect civilians, and act in accordance with international humanitarian law. The resolution further calls for respect for the sanctity and inviolability of UN facilities in Gaza. The resolution was drafted by Kuwait and was co-sponsored by Turkey and the State of Palestine.
