Ma’alot Yeshiva, located in the southern Israeli border town of Sderot, near the Gaza border, reopened after two weeks of closure following a deadly Hamas terror attack on one of its students. The attack killed two students and wounded several others. The school had been closed since the attack, as had much of the surrounding area.

The Ma’alot yeshiva, along with schools and businesses in the area, have been trying to resume normal activity in the wake of the attack. The reopening of the school has been seen as a sign of united support for the victims of the attack and as a message of resilience in the face of terror. Since the attack, the IDF has strengthened its presence in the area to better protect civilians from Hamas and other terror organizations. Schoolchildren have been sent back to school with IDF soldiers standing guard at the entrances and exits.
