Despite disputes, Kavanaugh touts respect among Supreme Court justices

In the wake of contentious partisan debates about his nomination and confirmation to the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh has stated that his fellow justices treat each other with respect. During an appearance on Fox News Sunday, Kavanaugh said that, despite public disputes, the justices have an “essential respect for each other” and are able to “leave the differences at the door” when debating cases in the Supreme Court. He added that this respect is crucial to the Court’s ability to make effective decisions. Kavanaugh’s statements come after several Supreme Court decisions, including one regarding the legality of abortion restrictions in Louisiana, were split 5-4 along ideological lines. Additionally, the justices have had some disagreements regarding the scope of their rulings. Nonetheless, Kavanaugh maintained that the justices respect each other’s points of view and that they are a “family” united by the duty of interpreting the law.
